Whitehall Park Gardening Club
In our beautiful Whitehall Park we have turned the old greenhouse area into a community garden. We welcome all members of our community to join us on a Monday morning. No knowledge of gardening is required. Our emphasis is on doing something together, in the fresh air if the weather allows, and supporting each other.
We meet at 10.30 to undertake jobs and projects, and at 12.30 we break for lunch which we provide. Its usually a vegetarian soup and bread.
What we do:We come together to look after our community garden, where we grow herbs, fruit and vegetables for members to share. Usually there are options and you can choose between the different activities. We come together to connect, support and befriend all through the year. Everyone is welcome including asylum seekers and people who have mental health issues. No knowledge of gardening is required. If the weather is poor we do projects indoors, such as making signs. Besides keeping the community garden we help maintain the park where we can; planting bulbs, clearing gulleys, litter picking, weeding etc.
Activities:Planting, sowing, construction, weeding, litter-picking, cutting back, pruning, mulching, SHARING CUPS OF TEA OR COFFEE, litter picking, clearing, harvesting. We have some social events such as Christmas, an Easter egg hunt and harvest celebration.
