Valley Street Textiles Club
We aim to work with members of the community to provide focussed support and creative development to build textile skills and increase knowledge. We provide access to equipment, materials, workshops, and projects. We run workshops (currently online) and regular meetings where you can meet other people who share an interest in textile crafts. Currently we meet at 1pm every Thursday on Zoom but this is subject to change.
What we do:Are you interested in Textiles? Do you enjoy knitting or crochet? Do you enjoy patchwork, embroidery or dress making? Perhaps you don’t do any of these things but you would like to start? Are you keen to find out how to repair, refashion or upcycle your old clothes or find ways to make your clothes last longer? We have a well equipped workshop with sewing machines. New members will get a starter pack of basic kit and materials. We have a programme of textile artist run workshops. The group meet for friendship, mutual support, to learn new skills, share ideas and patterns and to work on bigger textile projects together. Zoom meetings tend to be mostly social but workshops from visiting artists are introducing new ideas and skills.
Activities:We are a textiles group linked to Gawthorpe Textiles Collection who meet in person every week in normal times. Currently we meet on Zoom. Meetings are held at Valley Street Community Centre. We welcome beginners or highly skilled enthusiasts.
