Safe Families – Chorley
Safe Families offer hope, belonging and support to children, families and care leavers. We believe that no one should feel alone. We exist to create relationship and connection because everyone deserves to belong.
We support families in greatest need through a wonderful army of volunteers who spend an hour a week or two hours a fortnight to help that family in simple and practical ways; Having a cuppa with Mum, taking a child to the park, listening to a problem, creating new networks.

What we do:We recruit and train volunteers to support families in greatest need and enable those families to receive practical help. Families are referred usually from Social Work teams where a very practical need has been identified, this could be simply sitting with mum or dad for an hour and offering a supportive ear, it could be providing a little respite to a parent by taking a child to the park, it could be provision of skills such as gardening or painting to help create a home for a family. A volunteer may help to develop a social network and friendships for a family and sometimes they may just provide basic skills that some of us take for granted such as helping to cook a healthy meal for a family.
Activities:Volunteers spend an hour a week or two hours a fortnight to support a family in need usually for a period of up to 6 months. A DBS check is undertaken, references are checked, training is provided and all volunteers receive on going support.
