New Neighbours Together

New Neighbours Together is a community based charity providing welcome and support to asylum seekers and refugees in Burnley.
We offer a group social space and activities, distribution of quality second hand goods and clothes, English tuition, wrap-around care and advocacy.

What we do:

Our project, running since 2016, has helped many families and individual asylum seekers and refugees in a variety of ways. At our regular Tuesday and Thursday Drop-in sessions at St. John's we provided a warm welcome with refreshments, a sharing table of donated goods and a safe social space for a variety of events and activities - e.g. children's time, crafts and music, as well as days out. We have provided both classroom ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) and English at Home teaching in small groups, as well as health and welfare advocacy and form filling. In Lockdown we are unable to gather socially but continue to distribute donated goods, help with advocacy needs (socially distanced) and offer online English sessions.

A sample of some of the things we offer: • Children's play, music and craft sessions • Women's Group • Language swap cafe • English Lessons for Beginners (Pre-Entry) up to Level 1 • Info sessions with local community groups • Social events
