Talk and Tunes
Talk and Tunes is a friendly group delivered by Age UK Blackburn with Darwen designed specifically for older people including those who are living with early onset dementia and their carers to attend together. You will find a warm welcome and a safe and relaxing environment Tuesday afternoons 2.30pm to 3.30pm in the main lounge. Lyric sheets are provided so you can sing along with the facilitator as he plays on his acoustic guitar.
What we do:
Research suggests that listening to or singing songs can provide emotional and behavioural benefits for people with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia. Musical memories are often preserved in Alzheimer's disease because key brain areas linked to musical memory are relatively undamaged by the disease. For example, music can: Relieve stress Reduce anxiety and depression Reduce agitation Music can also benefit caregivers by reducing anxiety and distress, lightening the mood, and providing a way to connect with loved ones who have Alzheimer's disease — especially those who have difficulty communicating.Activities:
Singing, quizzes, reminiscing and discussion lead by an experienced tutor. Refreshments and food can be purchased in the adjoining The Bean at Albion restaurant.Links:
