New Friends for You
New Friends for You reaches out to lonely people in their own homes. It offers a weekly visitor for support and a chat. We go on outings for afternoon tea or lunch several times a year. We visit people for as many weeks, months, years as they desire or require. We change lives by offering the true hand of friendship and we break the imprisonment of loneliness.
As a result of Covid-19 we also now offer a telephone befriending service and more volunteers have been recruited for this purpose.
What we do:Volunteers contact us, are interviewed and asked for 2 references. We then apply for a DBS check and begin training. There are 4 modules of training, 3 delivered by Lancashire Adult Learning and the 4th delivered in-house. All referrals are visited and assessed and are then matched to an appropriate befriender. We hold sharing the caring meetings every 3 months where all the volunteers come to report on their visits and tell us how the relationship is proceeding. Every few months, we take all the befriended people and their volunteer out for lunch or afternoon tea. For many of our befriended people, this is the only time they can get out of their house. For those who cannot leave their own home, we take afternoon tea to them.
