Bacup Natural History Society & Museum
The Bacup Natural History Society & Museum was established in 1878, we have a collection of over 4,000 photographs and slides along with various historical documents on the Bacup and Stacksteads areas.
Our museum, displays various domestic and military artefacts and we also hold one of the oldest flint & fossil collections in Lancashire. Fondly known locally as the “Nat” we are situated at 24 Yorkshire Street, Bacup, once the home of the Hare and Hounds, pub.
What we do:
Visitors are welcome to come and use our new research and reference area where they can get help with their family or local history research, access online records or view our original collection of old local newspapers such as the Bacup Times, The Bacup & Stacksteads Chronicle and several issues of the Bacup Echo. In addition to welcoming schools and childrens groups into the museum we are also more than happy to come into school to talk to the children about life in Bacup in past times along with any other curriculum activities you feel we can help with.
